Charleston, S.C. writer and archivist. Born in 1878, she was the daughter of Augustine T. Smythe (1842-1914) and Louisa McCord Smythe (1845-1928). In 1902 she married writer and artist John Bennett (1865-1956), a native of Chillicothe, Ohio who made his home in Charleston, S.C. Susan Smythe Bennett authored numerous articles on the genealogy of South Carolina families. She was active in many civic and cultural organizations and was archivist of the South Carolina Historical Society. She died in ...
